Bertrand Waldo Adkins Obituary

Bertrand “Bert” Waldo Adkins, 95, of Lottsburg, Virginia, passed away at home on August 11, 2022. He was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, on September 18, 1926 to the late George Adkins and Clara Shelton Adkins. After growing up near Martinsville, Virginia, he traveled and worked out of state before returning to Fairfax, Virginia, where he lived and worked until he retired and relocated to Lottsburg in 1987.

He worked as an animator at Walt Disney Studios before serving in World War II where he fought in the Pacific theater and received a purple heart medal and two bronze stars. After his time in the service, Bert worked as a Department Director in the Army Material Command until his retirement in 1987. In his free time, Bert enjoyed sailing and being on the water. He also enjoyed painting and sketching, as well as reciting favorite poems and working on projects around his home and visiting with his friends in Florida, North Carolina and Virginia.

Bert is survived by his son Brian Ramsey Adkins (Ida) of Bishop, California; his sister, Barbara Wurl of Fairfax, Virginia; and his grandchildren Benjamin and Alexander Adkins.

Bert is predeceased by his parents; Linda Adkins, daughter with his first wife Shirley Adkins; and his third wife, Claire Blood; brothers Curtis and Jarrell “Jeff” Adkins, and sister Connie Adkins.

A memorial service for Bert will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 19, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 144 Ebenezer Church Road, Hague, VA 22469, with the Reverend Rebecca Rumburg officiating. Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
