William F. Moore (Bill) of Dover, Delaware, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2022. He was 87. He was born October 14, 1934, in Dover, Delaware, to the late Dr. Floyd P.H. Moore and Lorraine Moore. Bill graduated from Dover High School in 1952, then he attended The Kiski Prep School, along with The University of Maryland where he earned his bachelor's degree in Biology. He played baseball and basketball at each earning varsity letters. Bill was a gifted baseball catcher, while attending University of Maryland and was drafted by the Phillies. After graduation from college he moved to Morehead City, North Carolina where he worked for the Department of Fish and Wildlife Services for 2 years. Bill and his wife then relocated to Delaware, where he worked for the State of Delaware DNREC for 25 years. In 1986, he bought Faulkner's Pier in Bowers Beach with his wife, sister-in-law and brother-in-law. He was an avid fisherman, both as USCG certified Captain of the Captain's Lady and with friends and family. He especially loved fishing trips to Canada with his son and grandson and fished in Brazil, Mexico among many places in the US. He also enjoyed hunting quail and pheasant. He loved watching the Phillies, Eagles and Sixers. Bill was a member of the Maple Dale Country Club for over 25 years where he played golf and served on the Board. Bill was also a longtime member of the Peoples Church of Dover. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Phyllis Moore of Dover, DE; his children, Lauren M. Smith of Wilmington, DE, and Gregory V. Moore (Bill Goss) of Chestertown, MD; and his three grandchildren, Hayley M. O'Dell (Mandee) Trevor H. M. Smith, and Natalie M. Smith, all of Wilmington. Services will be private, at his request.
