Anthony “Tony” Alan Obituary

Anthony (“Tony”) Alan, 78, died August 9, 2022, with his family by his side in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. Tony was born February 7, 1944, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Anthony and Anne Zientarski. They moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1945. Tony received his Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s in Education from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He started his career as a teacher and refereed basketball in his free time. After teaching, he found a new career in sales. Tony lived in Michigan with his wife, Mary Jane (dec.), and son, Andrew “Andy” Alan. In 1986 they moved to Florida (Palm City and Stuart) where he continued to work as a salesman. After Mary Jane’s passing in 2007, Tony married Patty in 2008. He not only gained a wife, but he gained bonus children (Sam, Trisha, and Abby) and grandchildren (Emma, Jack, and Alex). Tony was a huge sports fan. He loved to play, watch, and discuss sports. Tony was a devoted Red Wings, Lions, Pistons, and Tigers fan. In fact, his first job was as an usher at Tiger Stadium, where he infamously threw a cherry bomb at Yankee’s center fielder, Mickey Mantle, to distract the Hall of Famer. Tony also loved University of Michigan sports. GO BLUE! Tony was an avid golfer for most of his adult life. He passed his love of golf to his son, Andy, and grandsons. He lived on a couple of golf courses in Florida. Tony was proud of his service and accomplishments as a past President of the Stuart Yacht and Country Club. He also loved his trips to the Masters with his son. In addition to sports, one of Tony’s passions was cooking. He would always take on challenging recipes, and he enjoyed being part of his “Gourmet Club” dinner group. Many people enjoyed his 206 sauce, ribs, and bananas foster. Tony also loved when he made homemade pierogi and city chicken with his son. Tony may have loved sports and cooking, but his favorite thing to do was spend time with his grandsons. He loved taking them for rides in the golf cart, bowling, golfing, swimming, fishing, playing games at the arcade, watching movies, telling jokes, and laughing with them. Tony was full of life, loved to crack jokes, and he laughed a lot. His big personality was always a boisterous presence wherever he went. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A celebration of life open house will be held in Tony’s honor on August 28, 2022. Please reach out to the family if you would like more information. Tony is survived by his son and spouse Andrew A. Alan & Dianna Alan; sister & spouse, Janie Ragen & Jerry Ragen; sister-in-law, Therese Zientarski; Patty Alan and family; grandchildren, Nicolas & Christopher; nieces & nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by both parents; his brother Lawrence Zientarski, and wife Mary Jane Alan. Please consider memorial donations (please include name, Anthony Alan) to Evans Scholars Foundation, 2501 Patriot Blvd., Glenview, IL 60626-8022, or online at wgaesf.org
