Terry Wayne Love, age 60, of Marion, NC went home to be with the Lord Thursday, August 11, 2022, peacefully at home.


Terry was born December 12, 1961, in McDowell County, NC to the late Paul David Love and Janet Sinclair Love. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, David Lee Ferrell and Stephen Paul Love.


Terry was as his last name implies “LOVE”.


Terry received his rank of Eagle Scout in the mid 1970’s and continued his service and dedication as a Scout Master of Troop 805 in Pleasant Gardens. Terry began his firefighting career with volunteering at the Dysartsville Fire Department in 1987 and continued his service to the community with the last 32 years being with Pleasant Gardens Fire Department. He held the position of Safety Officer for many years and devoted countless hours to serving McDowell County. Terry was employed by the North Carolina Department of Corrections as a Correctional Officer. He treated people with respect and an unjudgemental attitude as he served in his position before retiring with 28 years of service. Terry was a member of The Marion Moose Lodge #1705 and held an appointed position as Outer Guard. Also, a member of the Legion #78 of the Marion Moose and held the office of Assistant Sergent at Arms. In Terry’s free time, he enjoyed fishing, time with family and friends, playing games and most of all spending time with his children, family and friends and especially his grandchildren. Terry was loving and caring and always had more concern for the other person than himself. He never met a stranger only the opportunity to make a new friend. Terry will be greatly missed by all who knew him.


Those surviving to cherish Terry’s memory are his beloved wife of 37 years, Margaret Lawing Love; one son, Travis Lawing (Ashley); two adored grandchildren, Taylor Lawing (Trevor) and Jonah Lawing; one sister, Emily McKinney (Eddie); a nephew, Paul McKinney (Courtney); and a number of close relatives. Special brothers and sisters that served with him in firefighting and emergency personnel, and his fellow Correctional Officers. Special friends, David Norwood, Gene and Sharon Dennie, Tommy and Sarah Creson, the Lonon family, and his Moose family.


The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion. A funeral service to celebrate Terry’s life will follow at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home with William Kehler presiding. Interment will follow the service at Murphy’s Chapel Cemetery.
