Obituary

Raymond M. Wade

August 25, 1932-August 11, 2022

It is with great sadness and a lifetime of memories that the family of the late Raymond M. Wade announced his peaceful passing on August 11, 2022, just two weeks shy of his 90th birthday. Leaving behind to celebrate his life, his children; Raymond (Mel), John (Kathy), Cathy (Frank O’Leary), Terry (Debbie), Ruth (Chris Terry), Ed, Barb (Stephen Balsom), daughter-in-law Barb, seventeen grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, his sister Barbara Devereaux, sisters-in-law; Julia Morgan, Josephine Wade, Rita Wade, and Phoebe Wade, and his nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his wife Mary Margaret Wade, his son Walter J. Wade, parents Captain John Arthur and Mary Jane Wade, brothers and sisters; James (Eileen), John (Dot), Albert, Michael (Lena), Clarence (Bertha), Leo, Gerald and Catherine (Lloyd Croix), brothers and sisters-in-law; Frank Devereaux, George Morgan (Min), Ambrose Morgan (Josephine), Walter Morgan, Frank Morgan, (Shirley), Edward Morgan, Florence Morgan, and Ruth Morgan.

We are so saddened in our hearts that he is gone but take comfort in knowing that Dad had finally joined Mom in their Heavenly home after a lifetime of prayer and service to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bishop’s Falls.

The Wade family would like to extend a special thanks to Dad’s exceptional neighbors who were just as much family as neighbors to Dad, allowing him to live his life as full as possible in these past few years in Bishop’s Falls.

We would also like to extend thanks to those at Western Memorial in Corner Brook who cared for Dad during his brief illness.

Dad spent his early years fishing the coast of Labrador with his father and brothers. In 1948, he started his career on the trains in Newfoundland and stayed there until his retirement in 1988. He was a long-time 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Dad was known to all as a storyteller extraordinaire and would often regale us with stories of his days on the Labrador, of Conception Harbor, and of his later years on the railway. His stories would so often leave the listener with hairs on end, and fully enrapture his audience.

Dad’s other skill was recitations, recalling lengthy verses that he learned as a young child, and reciting them at any moment he had gathered an audience, no matter the size. Dad was often able to come up with plans to trick you. It didn’t matter if you were a man, woman, or child, he was able to suck you in with tears or laughter.

Dad started off life as a barefoot boy with cheek of tan, and now we’ve all come to know him as the best dad you’d meet in a days’ walk.

Flowers are graciously accepted, or donations in Raymond's memory can be made to the Roman Catholic Cemetery Fund in Bishop's Falls.
