Betty Ray Evans Murrell, 91, widow of Alfred Washington Murrell, III, died Thursday, August 11, 2022, at Prisma Health Tuomey.<br><br>Born August 22, 1930, in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Robeson Evans and the late Hattie Phillips Evans. Mrs. Murrell was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the FAHOLO Sunday School class where she served as the pianist for many years. She retired from NBSC.<br><br>Survivors include three children, Al Murrell (Sharon) of Henrico, NC, Richard Murrell (Donna) of Sumter, and Les Murrell (Judy) of Easley; four grandchildren, Mary Beth Mims (Kenneth), Rebecca Breland (Branford), Melissa Chae (Danny), and Thomas Murrell; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.<br><br>She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Ray Murrell; and two brothers, Richard Evans, and Bobby Evans.<br><br>Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Joseph R. James, Jr. officiating. Private burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.<br><br>The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of Richard and Donna Murrell, 114 Conyers St.<br><br>Memorials may be sent to Trinity United Methodist Church-Missions Fund, 226 W. Liberty St. Sumter, SC 29150. <br><br>
