Wallace Stanley McGuire Obituary

Our father, Wallace Stanley McGuire, passed away on August 7th, 2022 with his patient, kindhearted and dedicated wife Julia by his side. October 15th of this year would have been their 60th wedding anniversary. Dad’s battle with cancer was difficult; he remained at home as per his wishes and mom was with him every step of the way. She is a saint. My dad’s childhood was full of challenges. He strived to do better for his family and I would say it was one of his greatest accomplishments. In his early adult life dad took to playing the guitar. His love of country music stayed with him throughout his life and he would often play for us as we were growing up. Playing the guitar is a gift he passed down to his oldest daughter. Dad spent his working years as a logger, spending many long cold winter days in the woods. Though we didn’t have a lot of extras, he provided well for his family and we did not go without. He respected the value of a dollar. We were taught to pay our bills first and to appreciate what we have. We learned early in life to listen the first time, keep your opinions to yourself and never interrupt him when the news was on. He was strict, but I believe we are better adults because of it. His family’s safety was a priority. If things went wrong, Dad was the first line of defense. I personally witnessed him (pitchfork in hand) save my brother and cousin from a vicious goat attack while riding their bikes. That was a story we reminisced and laughed about for years. Some years later my sister (who shares his love of animals) had been feeding a stray cat that hung around the house. Myself, younger and more naïve, decided to pick it up. Numerous gouges and scratches were the result. Dad hunted that cat for days. Despite these altercations, my dad had a great love for animals. Growing up we had dogs, cats, hamsters, goats and pigs to name a few. Later in life his preference for animals turned to that of the wild kind. He welcomed all to his home, with birds probably being his favorite. Those closest to him have gotten the exclusive opportunity to see his many feeders and to partake in the feeding of squirrels and chipmunks that visit daily. After dad retired, and as us kids grew older, his demeanor softened. Dad enjoyed his own space and took pride in his surroundings. He was immaculate with his yard. He spent most of his hours planting and pruning trees, bushes and shrubs; each year adding more. His proudest moments were sitting back and admiring his work. Many have commented that Dads yard compares to that of a beautiful park like setting. They are not wrong. A side of my dad many may not have known about was his humor. He got tremendous satisfaction in making people laugh. Often we would receive a simple one word text from him, usually a goofy and off the wall word. I could always envision his grin on the other end of the phone. We are going to miss those texts Dad. We know it was your way of saying you were thinking of us. Dad is preceded in death by his parents, Leona and Stanley McGuire; his siblings, Orville (Mary Ann) McGuire, Martin McGuire, Lloyd (Ramona) McGuire, Bernice (Howard) Legace and Roger (Ethel) McGuire and a son-in-law James Wizner. He is survived by his wife Julia McGuire; his children Carol (Glenn) Dobbs, Brett (Renee) McGuire and Teresa (James Wizner) McGuire; his grandchildren Brandon Dobbs, Chantel Dobbs, Ryan McGuire, Timothy McGuire and Adair Wizner; numerous great grandchildren and his siblings Helen (George) Hoffman and Ruth (Michael) Watts. Our dad had many sides as do we all. His earlier experiences in life gave him a bit of an edge, but he ended his life with a softer and gentler heart. Dad we will miss you. We hope you have found your peace.
