Shirley Hawkes Jacksonville, New Brunswick Obituary

Shirley Hawkes

Shirley was born in Woodstock, NB on May 25, 1939 at Fisher Memorial Hospital to Dorothy Margeurite Dickinson Hawkes and Gerald Wayne Hawkes. She was educated in Woodstock Schools graduating from CCVS. At the age of 20, she and lifelong friend, Jean Scott Hyer emigrated to Miami, FLA in search of warm weather, sandy beaches and new adventures. It was during this time that she met her first husband and the father of her daughters, Paul. They later settled in Windham, ME , where her daughters Paula and Julie were born. Shirley became a commercial insurance broker spending her career at Clark & Associates of Portland. In Windham, she was an active member of the community serving on the Chamber of Commerce and Board of Directors of Saint Joseph's College. Upon retirement, she returned to Florida for several years before re-settling in Woodstock to care for her mother. Shirley will be remembered for her love of family, her close friendships, many of whom were childhood friends, her community involvement and maybe as importantly, her love of dance and the joy it brought - a joy she enjoyed into her last weeks of life. She is pre-deceased by her parents, Dorothy and Gerald; and her brother, Richard. She is survived by her daughters Paula Ann Morrison (Andy); Julia Margeurite Garrison (Mike); grandchildren Nicholas Garrison, Kylie Garrison and Luke Morrison as well as sister, Betty (Elizabeth Lou) of Shelburne, N.S., brother, Robert of Edmonton, Alta and nephew, David of Edmonton, Alta. She will be deeply missed by many cousins along with her wide community of friends. The family extends their gratitude for the loving support she has received during these past few weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shirley's memory to River Valley Cancer Support Group, Woodstock, NB. There will be no service at this time. 'When you get the chance to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance!'.
