Roberta Ann Hicks, 83, of Yorktown, Virginia passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2022 with her family by her side. Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years Edward Kent Hicks of Jefferson. Ann, as she preferred to be called, was raised in Johnston City, Illinois the daughter of Clarence and Lucille Smith. After earning her RN degree she moved to Norfolk, VA where she became a nurse anesthetist. While in Norfolk she met 'Kent'. She asked him to marry her and he said yes! The Navy moved the young couple quite often with stops in San Diego, CA., Mare Island CA, Virginia Beach Virginia, Guantanamo Bay Cuba and finally Yorktown Virginia where they raised their two children. After retirement, they spent many summers in Jefferson as care givers to Kent's father, Clayton J. Hicks. In 2009 they returned to Yorktown to be closer to children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Pamela Hicks Medford (Mark) and Scott Hicks (Jennifer), her brother Earl Smith of Illinois, her four grandchildren, Mariah Hill (Travis), Matthew Medford, Benjamin Hicks (Ally) and Jacob Hicks (Kassy). She is also survived by 6 great grandchildren, 27 nieces and nephews and her best friend Patricia Muir. Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Jefferson, NH on August 22 at 11:00 AM. Friends and family are asked to gather for a celebration of Ann's life at The Chapel ,701 Presidential Hwy. Jefferson immediately following the service.
