Gladys Elaine McKay Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gladys on August 7, 2022 at her home residence in Grand Rapids, Manitoba with her family by her side. Gladys leaves behind her children Dezirae (Rich) and Jordan (Lana), her grandchildren, Logan, Brielle, Levi and Jade, her sisters, Viola McKay, Marlene (Allan) Swan, Kim McKay “Sissy”, Glenda Chartier and Lorraine Muskego her, brothers Gerald McKay, Darcy McKay (Angela) and George McKay, her godchildren, Dion Desjarlais and McKay Constant, her baby Coco and Craig Gasken. Gladys was predeceased by her parents Morris and Annie McKay, sister Toots, grannie Angelique Chartier and baby Shab. Gladys grew up in Grand Rapids until the age of 16 years then moved to Ashern to further her education. Gladys moved to Dauphin to work for West Region Child & Family. She moved out west to Edson and moved back home when her mother got sick to take care of her until her mother’s demise. Gladys then moved to Winnipeg and started working for Southern Authority Network of Care. Gladys was a one of a kind with her outrageous sense of humour. She loved to make people laugh and say the most unexpected things, that’s just how she was having her dad’s sense of humour. She loved all her nieces, nephews and great N+N very much and would have names for them. Gladys loved playing pool and was a “pool shark”. She was also a curler and a big fan watching all the curling and hockey games. She loved playing crib, singing karaoke and was also a very good cook. Gladys was one of a kind. Thank you to Shanny for taking care of her Queen at her residence in Winnipeg. A very special thanks to Jackie Ferland-Bighetty who was such a big help in looking after her. They were best friends for over 50 years. A special thanks to Dr. Kim “Sissy” who was able to administer her medications. Thank you to all the people who helped us look after Gladys. Special thanks to the MCN Health Authority Health Care Aids, nurse Valerie Pranteau and Grand Rapids Nursing Station nurses. We can’t begin to thank the community of Grand Rapids enough. As soon as Gladys came home people started bringing meals and desserts everyday and all kinds of donations. Everyone made sure we had everything to make Gladys comfortable. Thanks to the MCN band who built a deck for Gladys. She was able to use it a few times and she wanted to be wheeled around the yard so she could look around. Thanks to the Town of Grand Rapids Mayor and Council for the $500 charge account for groceries. Also thanks to those that provided the firewood and the cooks who did a great job. We would also like to thank those for dropping by and those that had us in their prayers. We sure felt the love and support from the community of Grand Rapids. 59 Forever.
