BROWN, Elma Isabel (nee Scriver)

Passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 9, 2022 at PRHC, the Love of her Family with Her. Loving Mom to Anne Reaver (Ken) and Craig Brown (Catherine). Affectionately remembered by four grandchildren. Nana to Cara Wood (Rob) and Crystal Post (Ryan) and Gramma to Jim Reaver (Amber) and Kira Reaver Wallace (Nathaniel). Great grandsons Colby and Tyson Wood, Eddie and Elliot Post and Stirling Wallace. Her family brought great joy, excitement and pleasure to her life, she was so very proud of them all. Elma was born in Hastings, Ontario on January 1, 1930 and was the fifth child, in a family of fourteen, to Andrew Otter Scriver and Daisy Marie Scriver (Edwards). Elma is survived by her brothers Reed Scriver (Betty), Bruce Scriver (Jeanne) and sisters-in-law Janet Scriver (Paul) and Sharon Scriver (Carl). Predeceased by her siblings, Ruth Bryer (William), Aubrey Scriver (Connie), June Hart (Joseph), Ruby Summers (Eric), LaVella Berridge (Hillard), Lucy Mae Snarr (Gordon), Paul Scriver, Carl Scriver, Lois Steed (Ross), Andrew Scriver and Ronald Scriver. Elma was educated at Hastings Public School, continuing at Norwood High School (Grade 13). Following training at Peterborough Normal School she taught in one room schools at Indian River and Lang. Later Keene Public School (Grades 5 and 6) for 12 years and Woodview Senior (Grades 7 and 8) for 12 years. In 1980 Elma enjoyed a year's teaching exchange to Perth, Western Australia travelling extensively in the South Pacific area. Returning to Canada Elma completed her career for the Peterborough County Board as resource person in the Art Department and concluded her 35 year career at R.F. Downey in Peterborough. After retirement in 1986 Elma enjoyed an adventurous life travelling across Canada and U.S.A., holidaying at her island paradise on Lovesick Lake, Burleigh Falls, playing golf, painting in oils and water colours, gardening and travelling to many foreign lands. Elma enjoyed serving as a member of the Keene United Church in the choir and on various committees. Please consider donations in her memory to the Keene United Church or the P.R.H.C. fund. A private family service has already taken place. A celebration of Elma's life will be held at the Keene Lions Den on Saturday October 1, 2022 for 1:00 - 4:00 pm..
