James Ellis Dent

James Ellis Dent, age 75, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2022. Our daddy was the strongest, hardest working, and most loving husband, daddy, and papa you could have the pleasure of knowing.

Mr. Dent was born in Lumberton, NC on January 3, 1947 to the late Ewen and Ruth Lamb Dent.

He is also preceded in death by two brothers, John Henry Dent and Buddy Dent; two sisters, Mae Hickman and Kathleen Cox; an infant grandson; a caring mother-in-law, Annie Mae Jackson; and the most precious granddaughter, Ava Elizabeth Dent.

Mr. Dent is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Lynn (Lynnie) Dent of the home; son, James Ellis (Jim) Dent, Jr. and wife Fay Dent of Rowland; daughter, Ruth Dent West and husband James West of Rowland; three grandchildren, Ethan Hall and wife Morgan Hall of Stafford, VA, Aaron Dent and fiancé Heidi Parton of Sevierville, TN, and Rachel Hall Jennings and husband Jakob Jennings of Rowland; three great-grandchildren, Karter Smith Hall, Damon Alexander Hall, and Clint Avery Jennings; two brothers, David Earl Dent and wife Betty Dent, and Gene Watson and wife Velma Jean Watson; five sisters, Cara Ellen Britt, Edna Ruth Hickman, Martha Rae Walters and husband Harold Walters, Pauline Britt, and Sara Grace Bass and husband Jimmy Bass; and host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be at 3:00 pm Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Raynham Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Jerry Lowery and Rev. Jeremiah Jacobs. Visitation will be from 2-3 pm prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the Raynham Baptist Church Cemetery.
