Jerry Wayne Eagleson

Jerry Wayne Eagleson, 78, of Elberfeld, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 8, 2022 at his home. Jerry was born in Olney, Illinois on July 26, 1944 to the late Russell Eugene and Pauline (Hocking) Eagleson. He was a 1962 graduate of Bosse High School where he played quarterback on the football team and was pitcher on the baseball team. After high school, Jerry served in the United States Army Reserves. He graduated from the University of Evansville with a degree in accounting and was a member of the SAE Fraternity. Jerry worked at Glass Container Corporation and General Tire and Rubber Company as a controller. For 17 years he was co-owner of the Seasonal Shoppe on Willow Road in Evansville, Indiana, with his wife, Jenny. Together with their two sons, Jeff and Jay they built Elberfeld Gardens in 1993 in Elberfeld, Indiana. His passion was growing plants, trees, flowers and anything that grew in soil. He could be found watering from sun up to sun down. Upon Jerry's retirement his son Jay assumed ownership of Elberfeld Gardens. Jerry was a member of the German Shepherd Dog Club of Southern Indiana and German Shepherd Dog Club of America. Jerry enjoyed the companionship of the many friends he had throughout the years. He was the rock of the Eagleson family and proud of his children and grandchildren and all their accomplishments. As Jerry's health declined over the last five years he always told his family to stay healthy and motivated. Jerry is survived by the love of his life, wife Jennifer (Hawkins) Eagleson of 56 years, Elberfeld, IN; sons, Jerrod Eagleson of Evansville, IN, Jeffrey Eagleson of Waunakee, WI, Jay Eagleson (Roxann) of Elberfeld, IN, and James Eagleson (Lois) of Elberfeld, IN; sister, Suzanne Eagleson Kneir of FL; grandchildren, Trevor, Ryan, AJ, Haley, Jason, Brayden, Allie, Evan, Owen, Aren, Kelsie, Baron, and Chase; great-granddaughters, Hazel, Evelyn, Esmae; and nieces and nephews; and his little buddy, Tom "Brady". Jerry was preceded in death by his parents. A celebration of Jerry's life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711, with Pastor Bob Simpkins officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, August 12, 2022 at Browning Funeral Home and again from 9:00 am until service time on Saturday.
