Glenda Sue Venable Obituary

Glenda Sue Stevens Venable, 76, of Appomattox, Virginia, formerly of Lottsburg, Virginia passed away on August 8, 2022, with her loving family by her side. Glenda was the daughter of the late Virginia Gaskins Dawson and Charles H. Dawson and the step-daughter of Clifford H. Walker. Glenda was the wife of John M. Venable. She was a retired nurse who worked at various healthcare institutions over the years. She was a member of Wicomico Episcopal Church as a child and then joined Fairfields Baptist Church as an adult, where she raised her family.

Glenda loved caring for people, especially the elderly. Her work as a nurse brought her close with so many people, impacting so many lives. The care and comfort she brought to people who were ailing meant so much. At home Glenda enjoyed fishing, gardening, and canning. She was an excellent cook, and no one left her house hungry. Glenda adored her children, step-children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and shared a very special bond with each of them.

Surviving her are her husband, John; her beloved children Karen Clark (John Frederick) and Robert Charles Stevens; her granddaughters Lacy Clark (Jason Jackowski) and Brooke Clark; her grandson Kyle Clark; and her great-grandchildren: Christian, Kaylee, Cooper and Keagan; her step-children: Alease Elliott, Ametris Elliott, Michael Marshall, Michael Davis, Rodshawnda Marshall, and Jamari Lambert; her bothers-in-law Willie Brown and Eugene Brown; her sister-in-law Louise Brown; and many dear friends and former colleagues. She was predeceased by her parents, her first husband Shields Brooks Stevens, Jr., and her beloved youngest son, George Henry Stevens.

A funeral service for Glenda will be held at the Welch Funeral Home Marks Chapel on Friday, August 12, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., with the Reverend Lee Farmer officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Fairfields Baptist Church Cemetery, where Glenda will be laid to rest beside her first husband Shields. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to the American Kidney Foundation at www.kidney.org
