Lula Haynes

Lula (Hall) Haynes, age 99, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2022, at Heritage House of New Castle. She was born July 17, 1923, in Lewisville, Indiana, a daughter of the late Russell Verney Hall and Crystal L. (Ratliff) Hall. Lula worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for 42 years before retiring in 1987. She was the last surviving member of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha where she had served in all offices of that sorority organization. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and First Christian Church. She enjoyed crafts, jigsaw puzzles, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy on television. Lula is survived by two daughters, Dorothy E. (Claude) Hinton, and Carolyn H. Riley; four grandchildren, Sarah (Brian) Headrick, Michael (Summer) Riley, Joshua T. (Abby) Riley, and Andrea R. (Brandon) Powers; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Haynes, whom she married June 21, 1941; a son, John Haynes; a son-in-law, Richard Riley. Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m., Friday, August 12, 2022, at Rose City Funeral Home, 2011 East Broad Street, New Castle, with Pastor Ron Oren of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow at Lewisville Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m., until service time at the funeral home. Rose City Funeral directors and staff are honored to serve the Haynes family.
