It is with heavy hearts that we announce Darlene’s passing on Sunday, August 7, 2022, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Born in Sydney Mines on December 8, 1961, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Ruth (Dawe) Rideout.

Darlene worked in the fish plants for many years before moving on to the restaurant business. Her last was at Tim Horton’s until she fell ill.

Left to mourn are her son Devin (Amanda), the love of her life, grandson Maxten, Max’s mother Michelle, her brothers Clarence (Denise), and Brian (Nancy), sisters Carol (Bert) Sullivan, Debbie (Jim) Hardy, and Ruth Ann Wells, and her special friend Lily Carey. She is also survived by her extended Dawe and Rideout Family.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Kevin, her maternal grandparents Bern and Ella Dawe, paternal grandparents Bond and Myrtle Rideout, her special aunt Dolores Rideout, and brother-in-law Steve Wells.

A very special thank you to her sister Carol for her care and compassion during Darlene’s long and courageous battle with cancer.

Her family would like to thank all the nurses, doctors and staff at Northside General Hospital, 4th Floor at the Regional Hospital, Palliative Care and the VON. Thank you also to Jobes Funeral Home for your professionalism, kindness and compassion.

At her request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A graveside committal service will take place on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at 11 am in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
