Evelyn Martha Nickerson, age 95, passed peacefully, on August 8, 2022, at her home in Brandon.

 

Evelyn was born in Rochester on October 17, 1926. She was the daughter of John and Maidie (Fuller) Austin. She grew up in Rochester and Brandon where she received her early education and graduated from Brandon High School, class of 1944. She married Rollin Nickerson on May 31, 1945. Together they owned and operated a dairy farm on Nickerson Road in Brandon.  Mr. Nickerson predeceased her on April 25, 1993. In her earlier years she had worked at the Ayrshire Breeders Association in Brandon and later for Tom P. Whittaker, auctioneer. Evelyn retired from the Brandon Post Office in 1978 and moved with her husband to Prescott, AZ. She returned to Vermont in the mid 1990’s. Evelyn was an active member of the Brandon United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, knitting, crocheting, writing poetry and was an avid reader. Evelyn will be remembered for visiting shut-in’s and helping her neighbors.

 

She is survived by her 2 daughters; Alice Sutherland & her husband Andrew of Brandon; with whom she had made her home, and Sally Nickerson of Ft. Sumner, NM, 3 sons; Donald Nickerson & his wife Susan, Thomas Nickerson and Charles Nickerson & his wife Joan all of Newport, TN, and her sister; Janet Lamoureux & her husband Wilfred of Shoreham. 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a great, great granddaughter also survive her. She was also predeceased by a daughter; Linda and 3 brothers; Raymond, Gilbert and Gerald Austin.

 

The memorial service “In Celebration of her Life” will take place, on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at 10 AM, at the Brandon United Methodist Church. A private graveside committal service and burial will follow in the family lot, at Pine Hill Cemetery..

 

Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to; Brandon Area Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 232, Brandon, VT 05733 or to Rutland Area Visiting Nurse & Hospice, 7 Albert Cree Drive, Rutland, VT 05701.

 

Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral home in Brandon.
