Shirley A. Hickey Obituary

Shirley A. Hickey age 85 of Ashland, passed away on Sunday August 7, 2022 at the Lutheran Village.

Born in Finleyville, Pennsylvania on September 1, 1936 she was the daughter of George L. and Mary (Cushey) Vickers. Mrs. Hickey had been an Ashland resident since 1958. She had been employed as the secretary at St. Edward School for over 30 years. She also sold real estate for several Ashland Realtors. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Shirley was a person who enjoyed working and provided for her family when she unexpectedly lost her husband due to him being struck by lightning in 1967. She was very kind and giving with her time and love for others.  When she did have some free time you could find her in front of the television watching her favorite team - the Cleveland Indians.  

Shirley was married to R. Charles Hickey in May of 1956. Charles preceded her in death in 1967.

Survivors include three children; Robert (Debbie) Hickey of Polk, Kim E. Frank of Ashland and Edward J. Hickey of Ashland. Also surviving are two grandchildren; Jared M. (Sarah) Frank of Cincinnati and Kaitlin (Aaron) Harris of Ashland. Also surviving are three great grandchildren and six sisters-Lila Parker, Verlee Leezer, Edith Edwards, Joyce McCall, Rose Togni,& Kim Kriston & one brother-William Vickers.

In addition to her husband, R. Charles Hickey she is preceded in death by her son-in-law, Michael A. Frank, three sisters and two brothers.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday August 11, 2022 at the St. Edward Catholic Church with Father Rod Kreidler officiating. Burial will follow at the Ashland Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 am till 11:00 am at the St. Edward Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations in Shirley’s name be given to the St. Edward Catholic Church, 501 Cottage Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805 or to Kindred Hospice, Mt. Vernon, Ohio.
