Walter "W.W.' Walker

Known to some as W.W., Walt, or Grandpa Walter, he was loved by his neighbors, friends, and family.

Walter grew up in Meridian, MS, the son of Wilma and Lanier Walker. He attended Meridian High School, Mississippi State University, and Indiana University. His professional life led him to Indianapolis, IN. He worked in state government and was also a Professor of Statistics and Economics at Indiana University (IUPUI). He loved his students and they loved him too. He was a quick-witted and observant intellectual who could pull pranks and tell tall tales with the best. He liked to say "it might not be true but it makes a good story"!

He felt most himself being out in the Mississippi woods and, like most Southern country boys, he was an excellent marksman. He liked beer, a good road trip, home-grown tomatoes, "potato pie", and wildlife, especially the wild geese. He planted blueberry bushes, pine trees, roses and was an optimistic gardener. He played chess and tennis and stayed current on all things political. He was an interesting and complicated man we loved very much.

Walter is survived by his children Virginia and Russell and three grandchildren, Charles, Brenda, and Maura.
