Jonnie Sue Tatum Manning Oxford, Mississippi Obituary

Jonnie Sue Tatum Manning

Jonnie Sue Tatum Manning, 71, died Monday, August 8, 2022, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi. The graveside service will be Thursday, August 11, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at Browning Cemetery with Rev. Robert Frierson and Rev. Mike Vanderlip officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. at Waller Funeral Home. Mrs. Manning was born on January 18, 1951, in Oxford, MS to the late John “J.C.” and Aliene Tatum. She worked as Senior Programmer and Analyst at The University of Mississippi. A beloved member of Taylor Baptist Church, she devoted much of her time to singing in the choir, playing the organ and piano, and serving as treasury and secretary. If there was something you needed, Mrs. Manning was the one to look to, always willing to serve in any capacity. She loved to read all sorts of books on various subjects and genres. Determined to read even more, Mrs. Manning enrolled in a speed-reading course so that she could finish a book even faster and move on to the next one on her shelf. When she didn’t have a novel in hand, she enjoyed crafting projects and crocheting. Mrs. Manning was a talented cook, lovingly preparing meals for her family and for various church functions. Anyone who tasted her chicken dressing wanted the recipe, but no one could make it quite like her. From after school pick up to weekend getaways, Mrs. Manning played an active role in her grandchildren’s lives. Nothing brought her more joy than time spent with her loved ones. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Manning was preceded in death by her sister, Rita Jo Hendricks. Mrs. Manning was survived by her husband, Duke Manning of Oxford, MS; daughter, Tracy Manning of Oxford, MS; son, Richard Manning of Oxford, MS; sister, Betty Kisner of Oxford, MS; and her grandchildren, Elizabeth Manning, Richard Manning, Jr., and Jasmine Manning. Expressions of sympathy or memorial contributions in Mrs. Manning’s memory may be made to American Kidney Foundation, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD 20852 or online at https://www.kidneyfund.org/.
