Juan Valencia Bay City, Michigan Juan Valencia, age 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 5, 2022 surrounded by loved ones. The son of the late Eulogio and Juanita Valencia, he was born on March 4, 1927 in Sedgwick, Colorado. Juan was a tool and die maker at Saginaw Steering Gear where he worked for 28 years, retiring as a foreman. He has been a longtime member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish – St. Hyacinth Church. Juan enjoyed trips to the casino and color tours in the fall, tending to his gardens and flowers, hunting and fishing. And Juan loved history. He was also an experienced beekeeper and harvested his own honey for his family. Above all Juan was a true family man who cherished his children and grandchildren. On October 29, 1952 Juan was united in marriage to the former Mary Louise Ortega and she preceded him in death on June 15, 2014. He is survived by six children, Juan M. Valencia of California, David (Gloria) Valencia of Texas, Frank (Shelby) Valencia of California, Teresa (Steve) Schuman of Michigan, Daniel (Sharon) Valencia of Ohio, and Martin Valencia of South Carolina; grandchildren, Erica (Jim) McDonald, Brian (Joe Sawyer) Valencia, Paul Valencia, Max Valencia, Trista (Aaron) Czapla, Celeste (Eric) Bawulski, Luke Schuman, Claire Merryman, and Michael Valencia; great grandchildren, Jack McDonald, Matthew Sawyer-Valencia, Caroline McDonald, and Isabelle Czapla; and several nieces and nephews. Juan was also preceded in death by a son, Jose Valencia; two brothers, Lorenzo Valencia and Guadalupe Valencia; and two sisters, Margaret Garcia and Dolores Garcia. The Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish – St. Hyacinth Church with Fr. Jose Maria Cabrera presiding. The Rite of Committal will follow at Floral Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish.
