Rose Bishop Obituary

Rose Phillips Bishop, age 83, Harrodsburg, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022 at her home in Harrodsburg. Born June 25, 1939 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Luke and Edith (Peavler) Phillips. She worked at Cricketeer Manufacturing Company, Jonathan Logan Plant Manufacturing, and W.A. “Pete” Wickliffe and Associates Law Office. Elected as the first woman to serve as the Mercer Circuit Court Clerk in 1994, Rose was only the second woman elected to the Harrodsburg City Commission serving 2013 to 2015.  Rose was a very active community member which included outreach with the Harrodsburg Lions Club. She was an artist and loved to draw. Rose also enjoyed listening to opera, especially performer Andrea Bocelli and loved listening to the Carpenter’s Christian Church Services. She attended both the Harrodsburg Christian Church and Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter Lee Ann Sampson and one son George (Jill) Clayton Bishop both of Harrodsburg; one sister Patsy Schmidt of Columbus, OH; one brother-in-law Bill King of Harrodsburg; five grandchildren Ann (Jonah) Sampson-Grimes of Lexington, Sara Sampson of San Francisco, Ashley Bishop of Frankfort, Wyatt Bishop and Landon Bishop; four nieces Vivian Mumaw, Lisa Votaw, Rhonda Gail Burkhead, and Lynne Allison Phillips; three nephews Kelly King, Glenn Douglas Phillips and Brian McNeil Phillips and several special friends: Ann Edwards-Stancil and Marvin Stancil, Linda and Edward Uzzel, Rhonda Baker, Pam Parks, Amanda Selby, Wendell Watson, Elaine and Ralph Lipps, Mercer County Circuit Clerk’s Office Employees, Mercer County Courthouse Employees, Former Cricketeer Employees, Former Johnathan Logan Employees, and employees who worked for the late W. A. "Pete" Wickliffe's Law Office.

Other than her parents, Rose was preceded in death by a sister Linda King and two brothers, Marion Douglas Phillips and Lynn Mitchel Phillips.

Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 AM, Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at Sims Funeral Services with Brother John David Lane officiating. Burial will follow in the Springhill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday, August 8, 2022 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Tuesday, August 9, 2022 from 8:30 AM until the time of services at Sims Funeral Services.

Pallbearers are Randy Fletcher, Steve Williams, Bobby Reister, David Drury, Jeff Dotson and Ernie Kelty. Honorary bearers are Ernie Sampson, Jonah Grimes, Adam Habib, Bill King, Kelly King, Wendell Watson, David Taylor and Pam Parks.
