Eva Mae "Granny" Wilson Obituary

Eva Mae “Betty” “Granny” Wilson, 102, of Terre Haute, Ind. passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Springhill Village in Terre Haute.  She was born in New Harmony, Indiana, on April 18, 1920, to Claude and Ethel (Gibson) Compton.

She worked as a cook at Gibault School for almost 20 years and had a love for cooking her entire life, well remembered for her homemade apple pies, chop suey, French toast, and fried chicken.

Eva Mae loved to vacation in Florida and her weekly trips to the beauty shop.  She also loved to read her daily devotionals, as well as her magazines and the newspaper, and watch her favorite television shoes.

Her life was an amazing inspiration to not only to her family, but for the many people that she was able to touch and who were inspired by her kindness and spirit.

She was very sharp throughout her entire life, even winning the spelling bee in school.  But she specialized in her greatest passion — being the best wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother that she could be.  And as her family would all agree, she excelled at it and was dearly loved by all.

In Granny’s later years, while at the nursing home, she gained a new family in the staff and residents there. She enjoyed crafting, Bingo, and putting on her makeup several times a day as well as having her nails painted.

Eva Mae is survived by daughters, Janet Dunn and Linda Duby; grandchildren, John Dunn, Julie Hawn, Marcy Wilson (Jared), Kristi Duby, Matthew Wilson (Abigail), and Katelunn Duby (Zach Edwardson); great-grandchildren, Erika Lewis (Michael), Austin Hawn (Kate), Brenton Hawn, Tanner Wilson (Madison), Landon Wilson (Machelle), and Parker Duby-Montgomery; great great-grandchildren, Avery Wilson, Eleanor Wilson, and Ayva Lewis; daughters-in-law, Sally Wilson and Monica Wilson Moore and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, whom she married in 1940, Douglas Wilson, and he died in 1984; sons, Larry Wilson and Rick Wilson and grandsons, Brian Duby and Jay Braun.

Visitation will be Tuesday August 9, 2022 from 4:00 until 6:00 pm in DeBaun Springhill Chapel with funeral services at 6:00 pm in the funeral home with Chaplain Steve officiating. Burial will be at a later time in Highland Lawn Cemetery. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Springhill Village for the wonderful care they provided Eva Mae.
