Reverend Charles Nicholas "Nicky" Trahan

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Crowley for Reverend Charles Nicholas “Nicky” Trahan, 74, who passed away Friday, August 5, 2022, at Consolata Home in New Iberia . The Most Reverend J. Douglas Deshotel will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass. Bishop Emeritus Michael Jarrell will serve as the homilist. His fellow priest of the Diocese of Lafayette will be concelebrating. The family is requesting visiting hours to be held Wednesday, from 10:00 am to 11:50 am and 12:45 pm to 1:50 pm at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church (The 12:05 daily Mass will still be offered). Following the daily Mass, a recitation of the rosary will be prayed. Interment will be officiated by Fr. Jared Suire, Vicar for Clergy of the Diocese of Lafayette, in Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley. Charles Nicholas was born January 7, 1948, in Crowley, LA to the late Odey “Bits” and Cora Gilbert Trahan. Charles graduated St. Michael Catholic High in Crowley in 1966. Before being called to the priesthood, he worked at the Crowley Post Signal in the mid to late 1960’s and also at Montgomery Ward in Lafayette. He attended and graduated Notre Dame Seminary College in New Orleans and St. Joseph Seminary College in Covington. Fr. Nicky was ordained June 5, 1981, by Bishop Gerard Frey. His religious life began as a Deacon at Our Lady Queen of All Saints of Ville Platte; Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of Fatima of Lafayette in 1981, Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of Perpetual Help of New Iberia in 1985, Parochial Vicar at St. Landry of Opelousas in 1987, Pastor of St. Landry of Opelousas in 1990, Pastor of St. Joseph of Centerville in 1999, Parochial Vicar of St. John Cathedral of Lafayette in 2000, Parochial Vicar of Our Lady of Sacred Heart of Church Point in 2001, and Pastor of Sacred Heart of Port Barre in 2003. Fr. Nicky retired because of his health April 15, 2010. He loved his Lord, his family and friends and his extended church family. He also enjoyed good food and had a great sense of humor. He is survived by two nieces, Jami Trahan Brown and her husband Worley of Round Rock, TX; and Victoria Trahan-Arceneaux and her husband Gregory Lee of Conroe, TX; five great-nieces and nephews, Connor Brown, Hayley Brown, Morgan Brown, Isabella Muraywed, and Alexander Muraywed; and a host of cousins- Michael Moss, Judy Moss Schexnayder, Mitzi Moss Duhon, Patricia Kirkland, Paul Guidroz, Alex Guidroz, John Guidroz, Bruce Guidroz, David Guidroz and their families. Along with Fr. Nicky’s parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Caroll J. Trahan and Donald Trahan. Arrangements have been entrusted to Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley.

Fr. Nicky was a true friend to so many people at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. He was a compassionate person who listened to you but the main thing about Fr. Nicky was his laughter and his singing voice. We will miss you my friend.
