Maria Cagran Obituary

Cagran, Majda (Maria) nee Janezic

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Majda announce her passing on August 5, 2022, at the age of 75. Majda passed away peacefully at Innisfree Hospice with family and her dog Benny by her side.

Majda passed after a long and courageous battle with cancer, never complaining, always with a positive outlook, she will remain a true inspiration to her family.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Frank Cagran (2012). She will be greatly missed by her sister, Milenca Kraljic and her children Karmen, Milan and Marko, her brother, Franci Janezic (Vida) and his children Boris, Sanda and Maja, her aunt Vera Pristov and her daughter Bernarda, her sister-in-law, Marjeta Banic and her son Simon, along with many cousins, all from Slovenia. Predeceased by her parents, Franc and Marija Janezic. She will also be missed by her extended family, Martin and Theresa (Zinka) Mirt, Jana Mirt, Martin Jr. Mirt, Heidi Kelly and their families. Her dog, Benny, who she absolutely adored, will miss her terribly as will Majda’s many friends and neighbours.

Majda was born in Vrh pri Trebelnem, Slovenia. She later lived in Mokronog, Slovenia until she married Frank in 1971 and moved to Canada. Majda adored her home country and would travel back as often as she could to spend time with her family and especially loved Dolenjska.

Majda was a hairdresser for many years and had her own salon, Your Choice Salon, on Frederick Street in Kitchener. She later worked at Peoples Jewellers for many years. She was also a volunteer with the Alzheimer Society of Waterloo Wellington dedicating her time into making touch quilts for people living with dementia, where she made many friends. She was a long time member of the Slovenian Clubs, Slovenski Park where she had a trailer for many years as well as at the Slovenian Association “Sava” in Breslau. She loved Oktoberfest and never missed getting her picture taken wearing her dirndl each year. Majda was a wonderful cook and would often deliver meals unexpectedly which we will all certainly miss!

Majda’s family will receive friends and family from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, August 8, 2022 and from 9:30-10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467.
