Carl D. Gruver Obituary


Carl D. Gruver, 78, of Abbottstown passed away Friday, August 5, 2022, at his home with his family by his side after a long battle with kidney cancer.

Carl was born January 11, 1944, to the late Melvin and Catherine (Brillhart) Gruver on the family farm at Thomasville.


He was known for his excellent cabinet making and woodworking skills. He custom built many projects for family, friends, and his church. Carl especially enjoyed spending time at the family farm, highlighted by the yearly halloween/ haunted house gathering, and hunting ground hogs.


Carl was married to his wife Fay for 53 years. Together they had three children. Brian of Thomasville, Judy Gontz (Trevor) and Jody (Matthew) Stauffer, both of Lancaster; two grandsons, Nick and Ben Gontz; four brothers, Elmer, Ralph, Kenneth, Ronald Gruver; and two sisters, Annie Meyer and Dorothy Hoffheins.

 
He was predeceased by three brothers, Lester, Charlie, Daniel Gruver and two sisters, Ethel Mummert and Helen Schroll. 


Carl was a member of Paradise Evangelical Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church at 3241 Church Road, Thomasville, PA 17364.


Per Carl's request, his body was donated to Hershey Medical Center Cancer Research. 


The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff at Amedisys Hospice for their compassion and help.


Services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
