Wanda Pearl Whitaker was born on September 11, 1925 to parents Ora and Ethel J. (Helms) Whitaker in Chillicothe, Missouri. In 1929, Wanda and her parents moved to Marshalltown, Iowa and resided on the northeast side of town. She attended Marshalltown High School and graduated in 1944. On November 27, 1948, Wanda was united in marriage to the love of her life, Lowell “Jack” Reece at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She and Jack began a family of their own on an acreage outside of Albion where they lived for over 64 years. Together they had two sons, Richard and Roger. Wanda was a hard worker and was employed for Montgomery Ward in Marshalltown where she worked for 20 years until she retired in 1982 when the store closed. In her free time, Wanda enjoyed baking, tending to large gardens, spent time with her family, being hospitable in every way imaginable doing everything with a loving attitude. She was known to have an infectious smile and the sweetest and kindest person. Everything she did, she did with love. Those left to remember and cherish her memory are her children, Richard (Dianne) Reece of Adel, IA and Roger Reece of Marshalltown, IA; her grandchildren, Angie (Josh) Reece-Koch of Urbandale, IA and Casey (Dr. Sean) McMurray of Bondurant, IA; and her two great-grandchildren, Quinn and Delaney McMurray. She was preceded in death by her husband Lowell “Jack” Reece; her parents, Ora (Ethel) Whitaker; and her brothers Bill Whitaker and Ora “Bud” Whitaker. The family wishes to extend a special thanks and gratitude to Pam Wells and her staff at Glenwood Place for the exceptional care while she was a resident since 2015. Also thank you to Iowa River Hospice for her care and the care given to her family in her final days.
