Merle E. Weigel, Sr. 

DOVER - Merle E. Weigel, Sr., 76, entered into rest at 3:55 p.m. on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at UPMC Memorial in York.  He was the loving husband of Carolyn M. (Cornman) Weigel.  The couple celebrated 57 years of marriage on October 10, 2021.

Born April 9, 1946 in Gardners, Merle was a son of the late Paul E. and Leta R. (Kellison) Weigel.

He graduated from Bermudian Springs High School in 1964 and was a sheet metal worker.

Merle was a member of Goldsboro Church of God and Goldsboro Fireman’s Club.  In his younger years, he enjoyed building model ships.  He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles.  Merle enjoyed his time outdoors, whether it be mowing or weed-wacking.  Above all, he loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, Merle is survived by his children, Cheryl L. Gibson and husband, Wayne of Dover, Merle E. Weigel, Jr. and wife, Selena of Manchester and Jerome R. Weigel and wife, Tara of York Haven; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; a great grandson; a great granddaughter on the way; two brothers, Paul Weigel of Dillsburg and Walter Weigel of Carlisle; and a sister, Louise Becker of Lewisberry.

Following cremation, relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the service to celebrate Merle’s life at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at Goldsboro Church of God, 103 W. Broadway Ave., Goldsboro, with a visitation from 5 to 6 p.m.  Officiating will be Pastor Charles Yost.  Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., Dover, is serving his family.
