John Templeton Dickson, Sr.

<p>John Templeton &ldquo;Temp&rdquo; Dickson</p> <p>M/Sgt John T. Dickson,Sr.(Ret-USAF) passed away on Friday, August 5 ,2022. Born in McConnells, South Carolina, on April 2, 1934, he was the son of the late George Baxter and Ella Templeton Dickson. He was happily married to the late Nancy Jonas Dickson, and they were the parents of the late John T. Dickson, Jr. and Tami &nbsp;D. Gibby. During his career in the Air Force, he served in Southeast Asia, Japan, Iceland, and several places in the United States. After retirement, the 20-year veteran worked for the United States Postal Service for 33 years. The last 17 years of his career, he was the Postmaster in Hickory Grove, where he won the Olin D. Johnston Postmaster of the Year Award.</p> <p>Temp became a Mason in 1964 and served in numerous offices.&nbsp; He was a member of Corinthian Lodge #416. He was known throughout the state for his Masonic work.&nbsp; One of his greatest joys was playing guitar and being the lead singer of &ldquo; The Grits Hillbilly Band.&rdquo;</p> <p>Temp was a faithful, long-time member of Rawlinson Road Baptist Church. He held numerous offices in the church including deacon and usher.</p> <p>In addition to his wife and son, Temp was predeceased by his parents, brothers: Ray, William, Herbert, Marshall, George, Neal, sisters: Carolyn Ramsey, Ruth Thomas, Jeannie Marrett, Frances Wishert, Miriam Culp, and Rebecca Pressley.</p> <p>He is survived by his daughter, Tami D. Gibby (Tommy), his grandson, Dustin Cape, his granddaughters, Mallory Anderson (Patrick), Courtney Alexander (Scott), his sister, Beth D.Miller, his brother-in-law, Gadsden Jonas (Cynthia), and four great-grandchildren.</p> <p>Graveside services with Masonic Rites will be held Tuesday, August 9, at 4 p.m. at Lakeview Memory Gardens, York, with Rev. Michael Beeks and Rev. John Templeton “Temp” Dickson
