Roderick Russell III Obituary

Roderick Russell III, of Berwyn, PA, died on August 4th, 2022,at the age of 64 after a sudden illness with metastatic cancer,surrounded by his family.  

“Rod” was born to Roderick and Patricia on Long Island, NY.  He grew up in Brentwood before attending the University of Pennsylvania and marrying his high school sweetheart, Kathy, in 1980.

Rod began his career in the Philadelphia region as a bank tellerfor Continental Bank.  After graduating from the Wharton Business School and obtaining an MBA from St. Joseph’s University, he spent many years working for various banks,ending his career as a private banker at BNY Mellon. 

Rod found ways to serve his community through literacy tutoring and participation on the following advisory boards: Philadelphia Art Alliance and Main Line Animal Rescue.

Rod enjoyed reading, art, hiking and backyard bird watching.  He passed these interests on to his children and grandchildren.  He spent hours planning & tending to his gardens and was a dedicated fan of the Civilization series.  A more recent hobby of his was enjoying a game of pickleball with friends at the YMCA.  His great passion was travelling with his wife as they enjoyed spending time together in Europe.

He was preceded in death by his parents and younger sister Paige.  He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy; his children, Roderick and Caitlin; his grandchildren, Eloise, Mary and Grant; his siblings, Patience, Robert and Ronald; his in-laws, Helen, Lisa, David, Michael, Rick, Brenda and Debbie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 from 11:30 am – 12:15 pm at DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, Inc. 410 North Church Street West Chester, PA 19380; 610-696-1181; www.DellaFH.com followed by his Funeral Service at 12:30 pm.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the YMCA(https://ymcagbw.org/), or a Y of your choice.
