Claire E. Latwis Obituary

Claire E. Latwis passed away peacefully at her son’s residence in Monroe, NJ on August 5th.  She was born in Jersey City to the late Edna (nee: Bauer) and William Sheridan, but spent her adult life in Bayonne, where she was a long-time resident.  She worked in various administrative and human resources roles at Van Leer Steel and Inland Steel in Jersey City prior to retirement.

A devoted parishioner of the Church of St. Henry, Mrs. Latwis was a former Parish Trustee, Past President of the Rosary Society, a Lector, and a Eucharistic Minister.

She was a member of the Downtown Seniors Club, Red Hatters and Marist Mother’s Club.

Mrs. Latwis was predeceased by her beloved husband, Chester Latwis in 1966, as well as her dear siblings, William, Edward, Robert and John Sheridan, and Dorothy Eccles.

She is survived by her loving children, Eileen Viellette, and her husband, George, and Michael Latwis, and his wife Michele; and her cherished grandchildren, Nicholas, Brian and Kevin Latwis and Melissa and Megan Viellette.

The funeral will be conducted by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Saturday, August 13, 2022.  A funeral Mass will take place at the Church of St. Henry at 9:30 a.m. followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 12, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Donations may be made in her honor to Covenant House (www.covenanthouse.org).
