Nina Hughes

Nina A. Hughes, age 73, of the Bakers Creek Community went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family. She was a daughter of the late Ransom Paul and Irene Anglin Allen. She was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Mable Irene; brother-in-law, Jay Black and sister-in-law, Lynn Hughes. Nina attended Shoal Creek Baptist Church and loved gospel music. She played and sang with the family quartet, "The Allen Family", for over 60 years. Nina was a talented pianist, organist and played for several churches over the years. She was the former senior center director for 25 years before her retirement. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family dearly. Nina is survived by her husband of 54 years, Johnny W. Hughes; daughters: Pam Johnson (Brett) of Chimney Rock and Tami Hughes (Jerry Laws) of Burnsville; grandchildren: Chelsea Ray, Nicholas Ray and Whitney McMahan; great-grandson, Oaklee Hudgins; brother, Preston Allen (Phyllis) of Burnsville; sisters-in-law: Becky Black and Linda Punch (Emory) all of Burnsville; brothers-in-law: Larry Hughes of Fairview and Edward Hughes (Wanda) of Burnsville; nephews: Anthony and Jeff Allen and the family dog. "JoJo". Several other nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 8, 2022 in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Service. Pastor Merritt Taylor and Dick Westbrook will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 in the Anglin Cemetery on Bakers Creek Road. Memorial donations may be made to Gideons International c/o Dean Wilson at P.O. Nina spent a week with us during the summer. One day my sister Freida and Nina got into a biscuit fight. There was bread over all the down stairs. They realized my mama and daddy would be home soon. Such cleaning was never seen at the Allen house again. Mike Allen
