Dexter Robert Peak Obituary

Dexter Robert Peak, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1959, passed away January 21, 2017.

Dexter was born on March 15, 1933, to Vernon Word Peak and Avaril (Todd) Peak in West Frankfort, Illinois. He attended high school in West Frankfort, received his B.S. from Southern Illinois University and his M.A. from Colorado College. He married Jo Ann Norovich on December 3, 1954, at the First Baptist Church in West Frankfort, Illinois. Capt. Peak proudly served his country with the United States Air Force from 1955 – 1959 as well as six years in the United States Air Force Reserves.

He was a teacher and golf coach at both Palmer and Coronado High Schools. He also taught at UCCS, the prisons in Canon City, and was the International Director of the Greater Rocky Mountain Region of Sertoma. He was a talented drummer who played in the Pikes Peak Region from 1960 through the turn of the century and was also a published poet, great golfer, and table tennis player.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jo Ann Peak; his daughter, Dawn Elaine Williams; two grandchildren: Elizabeth Ann Dickson and Mark David Williams; and his brother, James Wendall Peak. Dexter was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 6, 2017 at Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard. Private inurnment will be at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Alcove of Our Risen Savior.
