Wilbur Eugene Crooks Obituary

 

Wilbur Eugene Crooks, 88, of Shelburn, passed away on Friday August 5, 2022 at Millers Merry Manor. He was born in Sullivan on June 29, 1934 to William Bill Crooks and Lucille (McCammon) Crooks. Wilbur served in the United States Navy. After leaving the Navy, he moved into teaching. He retired from teaching after 35 years from North Central High School where he also coached both boys’ and girls’ basketball. He often spoke with fond memories of those he taught and coached. Wilbur enjoyed woodworking, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Shelburn Methodist Church. He is preceded in death by his brothers Jack and Mort Crooks and a sister Phyllis Mason.

 

He is survived by the love of his life, Rhonda (Sebring) Crooks whom he married on June 28, 1959.   He leaves behind a sister, Sharon Lamb and brother Joe Crooks, he is also survived by his daughter Kelly (Dennis) Walker, and son John (Lea Anne) Crooks,  grandchildren; Dylan (Jess) Walker, Adara (Jacob) Henson and Brennan (Paige) Crooks and great grandchildren Declan and Stella Walker. 

 

Services will be  at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday August 10, 2022, at Holmes Memorial Chapel with Pastor Julie Putman officiating.  Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 4-7:00 p.m. Military honors will be given by the Sullivan County Honor Guard.  Burial will be at Center Ridge Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a scholarship fund for North Central High School Students who want to pursue an education or industrial technology degree at Ivy Tech Community College. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
