Joan Helen Ritzer Obituary
On Friday, August 5th, 2022, Joan H. Ritzer of Caldwell, NJ died of a difficult battle with Ovarian Cancer.
Joan H. Ritzer is predeceased by her father, John and her mother, Florence; sister, Carol and brother, John. She is survived by two sisters, Janet Sorbello of Brooklyn, NY and Joyce Nucifera of Pleasantville, NJ; and her loving cousins, Walter Ritzer of Colonia, NJ; Valerie Prendergast of Little Falls, NJ; Pamela DiBrita of West Caldwell, NJ; and Michele Ritzer of Caldwell, NJ; as well as extended family and friends.
Joan was born in November 1949 in Jersey City, NJ and graduated from Dickinson High School in Jersey City. Joan went on to work for Prudential Insurance Company in 1966 in a long-standing and successful career spanning over 40 years with the title of Director of Operations. She was recognized throughout the company as the person with the most expertise in Contract Settlement Operations and was called upon many times for depositions when an expert opinion was needed in court cases. Joan was a devoted, long-time employee who truly loved her job.
Joan was a loyal and beloved family member and friend. She was a loving cousin and aunt who had a deep appreciation for family. Joan especially treasured gathering for the holidays and celebrating the festivities of the seasons. Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday and she enjoyed decorating for Christmas, as well as making her famous cheesecake. Joan loved delicious food and great wine. She especially enjoyed her chips and chardonnay! Joan had a way of welcoming everyone to her home as well as being a wonderful conversationalist.
Joan had a zest for life and loved to travel. She was able to spend one of her final vacations in one of her favorite places, Las Vegas. Joan also had a strong affinity for animals and was very generous in her donations to charity.
In the end, Joan was a fiercely independent person who loved life and loved her family. She will be truly missed. Visitation will be Monday, August 8th from 12:00 to 4:00pm at Codey Funeral Home of Caldwell. Interment will be private.
