Johnny William Roberts Sevierville, Tennessee Obituary

Johnny William Roberts

Johnny “J. W.” William Roberts, age 89 of Sevierville, Tennessee finally arrived at his heavenly destination to walk on the streets of gold on Friday, August 5, 2022. He had longed for this time since accepting Christ and his call to the ministry April 15, 1970, at Alder Branch Baptist Church. A master mechanic by trade, there was nothing he couldn’t fix. While working for places in Sevier County that are now in our history books: Al Smith Chevrolet, Connor Motor Company, Concordia, Jenkins Transmission, and eventually opening his own garage. Johnny served in the U. S. Army in the 1950’s during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post 104, Sevierville. Johnny preached at many churches throughout Sevier County and would always introduce himself as “Preacher Johnny Roberts”. He had two separate Christian radio broadcast – one in Newport, TN and one in Altoona, PA until 1999. Johnny touched many lives over the years and went out of his way to lend a helping hand, teaching his only child, a daughter, the love of all things with motors and wheels and the blessing of giving to others without expecting something in return. Johnny is preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents, William and Ella May Roberts; all of his brothers, Carl, Lester, and Sam Roberts; all of his sisters, Lydia Kate Kitelinger, Mary Sisk, and Wanda Sweet and Anna Mae Dittman; his son-in-law, George Deckard; and the mother of his daughter, Shirley Hill Roberts. Johnny is survived by his only child, daughter, Karen Roberts; grandpup, CJ; and several nieces and nephews; and devoted farm neighbor Leonard Stayton. Special thanks to LeConte Health and Rehab for the last three years of loving care as he battled dementia. Honorary Pallbearer: Leonard Stayton The family will receive friends from 5-7PM Tuesday, August 9, 2022, with service to follow at 7PM in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. Family and friends will leave in procession from Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville at 9:30AM, Wednesday to Shiloh Cemetery, Pigeon Forge for 10AM graveside service and interment. Loved Uncle Johnny. We spent many Sundays when we were young listening to him preach. He would come pick us up at papaw Roberts house and bring us to church. Such great memories.
