Michael Marion Homer Obituary

Michael Marion Homer, age 68, was called home to heaven on August 4th, 2022. He was born in the city of Groom, TX to Martin Joseph Homer and Mary Lou Homer. He was a graduate of Groom High School, class of 1972. He would have celebrated his 50th class reunion on August 6th, 2022. In the year 1973 he graduated from Texas State Technical Institute, earning an Associate degree in drafting and design. He then went on to work for Southwestern Public Service in Amarillo, Texas for several years. Mick’s drafting skills sent him to a pipeline in North Dakota where he met and married Jane E. Graves in 1980 where they remained married until 2008. They had their first son, Avery, 5 years after their marriage in 1985. Mick and Jane worked along the pipeline for some time before transitioning to the San Antonio, TX area. He began the next part of his career working for Reeves Engineering where he did survey and structural drafting onward into the later 90’s. It was near this time, in 1996, where his Twin children Zoe and Martin were born. Mick eventually became an independent contractor under the name of Homer Designs and also had a little-known company he named “abda”. At this time is when he worked for Steve Cook Engineering and Solis-Kanak Associates INC. until the time of his death. Mick, Mickey to some, was a father and a father like figure, and great friend to many. His kind and charitable heart was a blessing to his neighbors wherever his journey brought him. He firmly held to the belief of “Fulfill your obligations” and no matter what he said he would do; he would do it. He studied biblical theology deeply and brought his wisdom and knowledge to several churches and platforms such as Church in the Valley and the K-DRY radio station. On K-DRY he shared his brilliance in the Word of The Lord in 30-minute segments he called “Bombshells” – In his words “It’s like a nutshell, but more.” His love for God led him to becoming an ordained Chaplain through Chaplain Fellowship Ministries where he eventually became a Senior Chaplain. This is where a new nickname formed: Chaplain-Mick, or Chap-Mick. During his tenure as a Chaplain, he married his younger sister, Janie, to her current husband Jeff Thomas in 2014. He was amazed by Gods creation, and took to the study of astronomy. This is where he entered New Braunfels astronomy club and hosted classes at the Tye Preston Memorial Library in Canyon Lake, TX. He also held many star parties in the place he called home for about 13 years, Canyon Falls RV Park. It is here where he also hosted weekly eat & meets every Saturday night where the Park neighbors and other friends could come together and talk and eat and have fellowship. At the time of his death, he was in the process of publishing scholarly books on the bible and word of the Lord. He was preceded in death by his father, Martin Joseph Homer, his mother Mary Lou Homer, his brother Freddie Homer, and a sister, Marcia Fetsch. His family surviving him are his 3 children: Avery E. Homer and Zoe M. Homer who currently live in Johnson City, TN, and his son and twin to Zoe, Martin J. Homer who currently lives in San Antonio, TX. He has one brother – Tim Homer from Hereford, TX. Three sisters – Ann Lueb from Amarillo, TX; Christy Crawford who is married to Dwayne from Kress, TX; And Janie Thomas who is married to Jeff from Wellington, TX. He also has his former wife and best friend, Jane Graves-Homer, from Spring Branch, TX. He has a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews, and one grandchild whose name is Jax. Special mentions: Jerry and Mona, who were there for him in his final years and his final hours.
