Obituary – Melva Beth Lane Melva Beth Lane, age 74, of Blythedale, Missouri, the daughter of Maynard Edward and Beatrice Esta (Willis) Hill, was born March 23, 1943, at Jefferson, Iowa. She left this life on Friday, September 15, 2017, from Lamoni Specialty Care in Lamoni, Iowa. Beth, as she was known, grew up in the Davis City, Iowa area. She attended Davis City and Lamoni Schools before graduating from Leon High School in 1961. Two days later, she married Ivan James Lane at Ivan’s parents’ home, which is now their home. The couple was blessed with three children, Shawn, Carrie, and Jennifer. As a newlywed, Beth helped Ivan on the farm and raised a large garden, including 300 tomato plants. Later she worked at the Burger Barn in Eagleville, Missouri, Place’s in Bethany, Missouri, the Eagleville School, Graceland College, and Lamoni Manor, before working 27 years at the Varsity Drug Store under pharmacists, Rollin Bridge, Bonnie Orris, and Larry Phillips. She retired the end of September 2016. In her free time Beth enjoyed working in her yard and garden, feeding the birds, especially, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, and goldfinches, and crocheting. She enjoyed traveling on vacations and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Davis City Baptist Church and was baptized in the Grand River as a child. Preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers-in-law, Lester Helton, Gerald Lane, Herman Lane, and Wallace Lane; sister-in-law, Jackie Lane; and aunts and uncles. Survivors include her husband, Ivan Lane, of Blythedale, Missouri; children, Shawn and Tammy Lane of Blythedale, Carrie and Tim Richardson of Eagleville, Missouri, and Jennifer Lame of Lamoni; seven grandsons, Seth and Ashley Lane, Shelby Lane, Shannon and Brandy Lane, Casey and Summer Richardson, Kyle and Kayla Richardson, Cody and Lesli Lame, and Dylan and Kim Lame; 28 great grandchildren; siblings, Willis and Boots Hill of Cullman, Alabama, Esta Helton of Gilman City, Missouri, and Joan Myers of Pelham, Alabama; sisters-in-law, Doris Lane of Lamoni and Lois Lane and husband, Bob, of Independence, Missouri; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at the Lamoni Community of Christ Church at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 19, 2017, with Larry Phillips officiating. Burial will be in the Andover Cemetery, Andover, Missouri. Arrangements are through the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni, Iowa. Memorials may be given to the Andover Cemetery in Beth’s memory.
