“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants.” Psalm 116:15 Mark Christopher Cooley, 71 years old, of McGregor, Texas, went to be with his Heavenly Father, Friday, July 29, 2022. He was a faithful and loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Mark was born on February 28, 1951 in San Diego, California to Wesley Deverne and Love Cooley. He grew up in San Diego, graduating from Escondido High School in 1969. After high school he attended California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, majoring in journalism and writing for the Mustang Daily school newspaper. Mark married Cathryn Elizabeth Crew on September 9, 1972 and together they were blessed with two children, Amy and Matt. He and Cathy lived their married life in San Diego for 40 years before retiring and settling in McGregor, Texas to be near their children and grandchildren. Mark was an avid sports enthusiast and photographer. He was never without his camera, always taking the pictures at family and sporting events. He also loved his work as a photographer for MaxPreps. Combining his love for kids and sports, Mark was also an umpire for girl’s youth and high school softball. Mark was a kind, caring, and giving person who loved and invested in those around him. He led life with a servant's heart. He was always willing to help, often putting the needs of others before his own. Throughout his life he invested in the hearts of others by being involved in InterVarsity, Young Life, and teaching kid’s Sunday school and men’s bible study at various churches. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Wesley Deverne Cooley, and his mother Love Morrow Magness. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Cathy Cooley; daughter, Amy Burchfield and husband Jeff of Waco, Texas; son, Matt Cooley and wife Kristi of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren Ethan, Evan and Ellie Kate Burchfield and Carson and Caden Cooley; along with numerous beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. A visitation for Mark will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, Friday, August 12, 2022 at Highland Baptist Church, 3014 Maple Ave, Waco, TX 76707. A memorial service will immediately follow at 12:00 pm, on August 12, 2022 at Highland Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
