Rex Milton Hendrix

Rex Milton Hendrix of Sulphur Springs passed away Friday, August 5, 2022 at the age of 91.

A Celebration of Life Service will be on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home Chapel.

Rex was born on June 16,1931 in Mount Vernon, Texas to Buman and Letha Ester (Jaggers) Hendrix. He was the eldest of 4 boys growing up on a farm. During his youth he was responsible for helping his family with day-to-day chores. In the mornings before school, he would complete his chores, like milking the cows or collecting the eggs and after school he would help with plowing the fields. He graduated high school in 1949 and then left for Technical Institute in Dallas.

Rex was in the United States Marine Corp from 1950-1954. During his time in the military, he was stationed in California and Washington. He then went to work for Garland Farms as an accountant. On November 1, 1956 he joined Frito-Lay in accounting until his retirement on January 17,1992, as a Senior Financial Analyst.

Rex married Betty Jo (Knight) Ward on November 27, 1952 in Seattle, Washington. They lived in Seattle, WA, Dallas, TX and in Garland, TX. During their marriage they had 4 daughters, Lyndia Dian (Hendrix) Silvers, Rexalun Suzann Hendrix, Gail Ann (Hendrix) Shaffer, and Tammy Jo (Hendrix) Edney. His marriage ended in December, 1980.

Rex then met Dolores Bell Hendrix at Frito-Lay and they were married on April 17, 1981 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He became the step-father to 2 step-children, Joy (Bell) Pittman and Robert "Bobby" Glen Bell. They lived in North and East Dallas, on Lake Cypress Springs of Mt. Vernon, and later in Sulphur Springs, TX.  They were married for 41 years before Dolores passed away on June 22, 2022.

Rex enjoyed his gardening, camping, bowling, travelling, casinos, and being with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Hendrix; parents, Bumen and Letha Hendrix, and brothers, G.B. "Bud" Hendrix and Pat Joel Hendrix.

Survivors include his children; Lyndia Dian Silvers of Denison, TX, Rexalun Suzann Hendrix of Denison, TX, Gail Ann (William) Shaffer of Emory, TX, Tammy Jo (David) Edney of Sun City, AZ, Joy (Larry) Pittman of Mt. Vernon and Robert "Bobby" (Janie) Bell of Ardmore, OK; grandchildren, Angelyn (John) Puckett, Paul (Corina) Ford, Scott Guerra, Ryan Medlock, Brandi (Jeromy) Loucks, William Crawford, Jillion (Michael) Becker, Amanda (Drew) Duffer, William E. Shaffer, Marcy (Shawn) Terry, Robin (Allison) Roden, Lacey (Matt) Tomanek, Clay Bell, and Kimberly Normile; great grandchildren, Michael Ford, Allison Ford, Abigail Ford, AnnaMaria Puckett, Travis Guerra, Dakota Guerra, Alexi Crawford, Kaili Loucks, Elijah Loucks, Joseph Becker, Zechariah Becker, Emerson Becker, Mara Becker, Gwen Becker, Austin Duffer, Audrey Duffer, Clara Duffer, Dustin Cussimanio, Jason Ford, Marina Terry, Melody Terry, Emma Roden, Ashlyn Roden, Sutton Tomanek, Arlo Tomanek, Clayton Bell, Cody Bell, and Madison Normile; great great grandchildren, Romeo Cussimanio, Tori Cussimanio, and Max Rusk; brother, Mack (Sue) Hendrix; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
