Joanne Agnes Shauffenburg Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Joanne Agnes Shauffenburg, 79, of Back Centre, announces her passing on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born in Blue Rocks, she was the daughter of the late Currie and Lena (Tanner) Weaver.

Over the years, Joanne worked at National Sea Products and then went on to work in the kitchen of the Capt. Angus Restaurant and at the Wheel House Restaurant in Lunenburg.
Faithful to her community, Joanne was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she supported the work of the church in any way she could, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Lunenburg Jaycette’s and was an active supporter of her family in the Shriner’s organization.

Joanne enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and the quality times with her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were so important.

Her love of life, family, friends and the community at large, were so important to her. Joanne’s quiet courage, strength of spirit, creativity and sense of humour will be carried forward by those who knew and loved her.

Joanne is survived by her daughter, Gwendolyn Skinner (Bruce Hatfield), Shelburne; sons, Graham (Kimberly), Back Centre, Kenneth, Dayspring; grandchildren, Krystal-Anne (Jon) Clattenburg, Jamie-Lee Skinner (Warren Poole) , Shay-Lynn Skinner (Mac Tibbo) ; great-grandchildren, Ciaran, Greyson, McKynleigh, and Brynleigh, Westyn and Ivy-Lea; brother-in-law, Paul Allen, Lunenburg and sister-in-law, Rose Weaver, Lunenburg and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Joanne was predeceased by her husband, Mervyn; sisters, Charlotte Allen, Helen Greek, Ina Tanner; brothers, Rockwell, Gordon, and Donald, and an infant brother.

Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg, with visitation on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and where a funeral service to celebrate Joanne’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, Rev. Willis Ott officiating. Interment will be in Sunny Valley Cemetery, Centre.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, First South, the CNIB or to a charity of your choice.

We would like to thank the doctors and staff of Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital and South Shore Regional Hospital for the wonderful care and compassion showed to Joanne over the past number of years.
