Aidan Martens

May 27, 1998 - August 1, 2022

Our beloved Aidan Michael Martens passed away unexpectedly on August 1, 2022. Aidan was only 24 years old. Our family is devastated and deeply saddened by his loss. Aidan was born on May 27, 1998 to parents, Mike and Mary Lynne Martens. He is survived by them and his younger sister, Jessica. He also leaves behind his grandparents, Ed and Ellie Martens and Bob and Betty Skippen, as well as eight aunts & uncles and ten cousins on both sides of his family.

Aidan was a kind soul with a huge heart, a beautiful laugh and the most amazing hair. He loved the outdoors and had a deep passion for music to which he committed endless hours playing, recording and producing. If he found a piano in a gymnasium, hospital or public lobby, he would sit down to play in his own innovative and creative way. Aidan’s piano and guitar playing magnetically drew people to him. He brought joy to many with his entertainment and created bonds of friendships with dozens of strangers through his diverse musical interests.

Aidan saw the world through his personally unique perspective where he preferred his own experiences and the beat of his own drum over ‘going with the flow’ or doing what everyone else did. One of Aidan’s most admired qualities was his caring and accepting attitude towards all people. He would strike up a conversation with anyone, make fast friends with those who shared his interests and if you knew him, you know he always rooted for the underdogs in the world, even when it was at the expense of his own needs or self care.

On the physical level, Aidan was good at almost any sport he tried, as long as he could do it his own way. An expert BMX Racer at a young age, he would often sit down and stop pedalling far enough from the finish line so his buddies could pass and share the points, trophies, candy and freezies with him. As an adult, when he played golf he would only use a few clubs but could hit his 6 iron 250 yards. Aidan’s independent nature came through in absolutely everything that he did.

Aidan kept his struggles private and, for the most part, protected those that he cared about from this part of his life. When he was recently asked what was important to him, his answer was his family, his life and that he wanted to be known for helping a wide variety of people. Aidan was always quick with a big bear hug and first to say “I Love You”.

He fought hard to come into the world and fought a tougher battle when he left. Aidan was a warrior, he was our hero. We miss him and we love him so incredibly much.

A Celebration of Aidan’s Life will be held on August 17, 2022 at The Jumpingpound Community Hall. 44208 Township Rd 250 just South & West of Cochrane. Doors open at 2:00 pm, program starts at 3:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the Enviros Shunda Creek Wilderness Addiction Program in memory of Aidan.
