Betty was born to Bernard and Caroline Pacholl on Sept. 4, 1938 on a farm in Wilmont, MN. She
passed away on July 27, 2022 with family around her at home in Bakersfield, CA.

Betty grew up on a farm in Slayton, MN. She attended school in a one room school house until
high school. After high school graduation she attended nursing school and became a Registered Nurse.
Betty and two nursing friends decided to transfer to the VA Hospital in Long Beach, CA and worked there
until 1970.

Betty was asked to fill in for a roommate, who was called to work, for a blind date with Richard
Hartje. They fell in love and they were married in 1962. They brought 3 children into the world Pamela,
Richard and Angela.

The family moved to Bakersfield in 1970. Betty became a homemaker and focused on raising
their children. She was involved helping at their children's school and shuttling them to their activities.
They all graduated from Garces High School.

Betty was very involved in St. Philips Church Women's Club. She served as coordinator for the
funeral luncheon ministry for 30 years. There were many late nights on the phone lining up food and
volunteers for the events.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who was so
generous that she always put others first. She loved being involved with the grand kids and great
grandkids watching them all grow up. She loved them all.

She loved playing bridge, traveling, being involved at church and having family dinners. She will
truly be missed by all.

She is survived by her husband Richard Hartje, children Pamela & Darryl Oscars, Richard, Angela,
3 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; sisters Janet Anderson (Doug) of Slayton, MN and Judy Benson (Larry) of Solon, IA, and brother Gary Pacholl (Patty) of Farmington, MN.

We thank everyone for the support they gave us during this difficult time.
A funeral mass is will be at St. Philips Church on August 26, 2022 at 9:30 AM.
