Lucy H Chmiel, 96, life long resident of Johnson City, passed away peacefully August 1, 2022. Predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Anthony, son Larry, daughter Terrie (Powell), son-in-law Dennis Powell, brother and sister in law Paul and Connie Prusik, sister Rose Poliziano, brother-in-law Sal Poliziano and their son, Tom Poliziano. Survived by daughter Rita (Bruce) Martin, son Richard (Karen Smith) and daughter-in-law Tuyet Lisa Ly Chmiel Grandchildren Melanie Carpenter, Corey Chmiel, Michael Powell, Karen (Powell) Gonyea, Lisa Powell, Valerie Powell, Andy, Fred, Lia (Jackson) and Paul Chmiel. 20 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren. Neices Paula Hakes, Mary Monico, Nephews Lee & Fred Poliziano . Lucy was originally employed by Endicott Johnson as golf ball winder. She then became the front desk monitor at the original Wilson School of Nursing, soon after she was a nurse's aide at Wilson Hospital ECF3 & ECF4. While she was performing her health care duties, Lucy was a founding volunteer at Birthright in October 1975 and continued volunteering well into retirement, receiving the certificate of appreciation in December 2015. Lucy enjoyed the cottage that she and her husband built together in the Town of German, She was well-known to be seen in her 1982 blue Ford F100 pickup, hair in long braids pinned around her head, driving all over Broome and Chenango County. Lucy was a piano enthusiast, giving lessons in her home for many years and playing memorized classical music like Chopin. After retirement she took pleasure in caring for several elderly people in their homes to make them comfortable.  Lucy took delight in her gardening and flowers and was a member of the Arbor Day Foundation. Lucy embraced the real estate market, land development, including the environmental aspects. Please join us in celebrating her life. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 10th 4-6 pm at Barber Memorial Home, Inc. 428 Main St, Johnson City NY. A service will follow at 6pm.  A special thanks to Karen for her extra care and friendship to Lucy.  The burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery alongside her husband Anthony, a Pearl Harbor survivor.
