Helen Pastushuk Obituary

Helen Pastushuk
August 14, 1931 – August 3, 2022

We are incredibly saddened to announce the passing of our amazing mom, grandmother, great grandmother, at the Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Center, Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at the age of 90 years.

Helen, dearly called Baba, had a farmer’s heart, and enjoyed the time she spent farming, gardening, being in her flowerbeds, and canning. She kept busy with cooking, baking, reading cookbooks, knitting, crocheting, and sewing. Her greatest passion was her children, grandchildren, and extended family. She always ensured that she kept up with everyone, phoning to check on everyone, even if it was for just a few minutes. She especially loved to be with family at wiener roasts, holiday gatherings and reunions. Her resilience and ability to rise above the struggles is a testament to her faithful heart. Her genuine affection will be extremely missed.

Helen will always be lovingly remembered by her children, Gloria (Terry) Hystad, Jerry (Shonia) Pastushuk; 9 grandchildren Dean (Tabetha) Hystad, Jared (Hannah) Hystad, Cameron Hystad (Emily Bryant), Caitlyn Hystad, Shawndra Pastushuk (Sean Brosinsky), Kyla Pastushuk, Michael Pastushuk, Skylynn Pastushuk, and Jacob Pastushuk; 6 great-grandchildren Sydney, Callum, Kyran, Annika, Heidi, Anastacia and a little one on the way. Helen will also be remembered by her siblings John (Helena) Cymbaluk, Philip (Ferne) Cymbaluk, Ted (Joanne) Cymbaluk, Anne (Percy) Breslawski, Jean Cymbaluk, Julie (Gordon) Salembier, Nadia Cymbaluk, Sister-in-law Annette Cymbaluk, brother-in-law Gordon Bodie, daughter-in-law Shari Pastushuk, in laws Nina and Albert Strobel and special friend and cousin William (Bill) Kelso. She is also survived by much loved cousins, nieces, and nephews as well as many friends and church family.

She is predeceased by her husband, Peter Pastushuk, her children Gordon Pastushuk, Carolyn Smith, and Lorne Pastushuk; her parents Martin and Mary Cymbaluk; her siblings Harry Cymbaluk, Lydia “Vicki” Bodie, brother-in-law Iain Christison, and in-laws Peter and Mary Semenyna.

Helen’s family would like to extend a huge thank you to the staff and residents of the Shangri-La Lodge for making Mom’s home at the lodge a wonderful experience. They would also like to express their gratitude to the nurses, health care aides and the doctors who helped Mom through her final journey.
