Ira Joel Citron, who was born on December 28, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York, passed away on August 3, 2022 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical, with his daughters by his side. Residing in Winston-Salem for almost 50 years, he was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan and Dorothy Citron; his brother, Robert Citron and his former wife, Gail Citron. He is survived by his daughters, Judy Breakstone and her spouse, Rob of Winston-Salem, and Jennifer Citron and her spouse, Steve Bloomfield of Charlotte as well as four grandchildren, Ben and Emma Breakstone and Jack and Henry Bloomfield. Ira received his undergraduate degree from New York University. He was in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. After his time served, Ira started his career in advertising in the mailroom of Ted Bates, a New York advertising agency. He quickly moved up to become a copywriter, and worked on Mobile Oil, Colgate and Pall Mall cigarettes. After his daughters were born, the family moved to Winston-Salem. Ira worked alongside his father-in-law and wife in running Robin’s Women's Clothing Stores. He then went back to his first love, advertising, while working at The Russell agency where one of his clients was RJR Tobacco. Ira ended his career working at the UNCSA Foundation. He was also involved in his community as a past president of Temple Emanuel, a volunteer for Piedmont Craftsmen, Senior Services and Samaritan Ministries soup kitchen. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Temple Emanuel. A burial will follow at Mt. Sinai Cemetery in Winston-Salem.
