Shevawn Anne O'Donnell Obituary

Shevawn O’Donnell was born in Miles City, Montana on November 18th, 1964.  She passed away on July 27th, 2022, in Portland, Oregon.

Shevawn was the baby of seven children born to Francis and Ruth Mary O’Donnell.  When she was 11 months old, the family moved from Baker to Helena, Montana.  In 1974, the family moved to Fort Peck where she attended school through the 8th grade. She did track and played basketball in Fort Peck.  Despite her size, she was a great basketball player.  She attended Glasgow High School and Helena High School where she graduated in 1983.  Shevawn lived in Billings for a time before moving to Portland in 1986, where she met and eventually married her husband, Allen Matter.

She loved football and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.  She never cared how much crap she had to take over that.  Music was also a big part of her life.  She enjoyed everything about it - from listening to a record while cleaning the house, to going to the Blues Music Festival on the 4th of July in Portland, to blasting the 80’s station in the car. Her biggest love, though, was for her children and especially her granddaughter, Lily. Grandma and Lily enjoyed taking summer evening walks along the river and curling up together to watch a show. Anyone could see the happiness Lily brought to her grandma’s life. Shevawn could always be seen in the audience at her daughters’ dance recitals or cheering from the stands at her son’s football games.  She was very proud of her nieces and nephews as well and was just as happy to hear about their accomplishments as her own children’s. She had a kind and tender heart and tried always to see the good in everyone she met. She cared about those less fortunate.  She worked hard all her life and was a valued employee wherever she worked.

Shevawn, we miss you so much.  Our hearts are broken and hopes for the future dashed.  Part of our family is missing, and we can do nothing about it.  You were far too young to leave us.  You are loved.

Shevawn is survived by her children, Meghan, Sarah, and Dylan; step-sons, Christopher and Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Matter; granddaughter, Lily; sisters, Teri, Sheila, and Shannon (Mel); and brothers, Tom, Tim (Sandy) and Sean.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Ruth Mary O'Donnell; husband, Allen Matter; and brother-in-law, Robert Holbert.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 3rd at North Clackamas Community Park at 12:00 p.m. located at 5440 SE Kellogg Creek Drive Milwaukie, Oregon 97269.
