Glen Mervine Obituary

Glen R. Mervine, 92, of Plane Street, Gordon, passed away at home with his family by his side, Friday, August 5, 2022.  Born in Gordon, July 16, 1930, he was the son of Guy and Mrytle (Miller) Mervine.  He  attended Gordon schools, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, serving with the 1729th Company B of the engineering battalion in Germany.  He was awarded the National Defense Service Metal for his service.  Following his discharge, he returned home to the love of his life, Betty (Lucas) Mervine.  In January of 2022, they celebrated 70 years of marriage.

Glen was a member of the Simpson United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Amvets, Post #44, all of Gordon.  He was affectionately known as “Pige” to his close friends and family, obtaining the nickname from raising pigeons. He retired from the Gould’s Pump Company of Ashland in 1995.

Never an idle man, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, baking and listening to music.  Many Saturdays were spent “gallivanting” to yard sales, flea markets and stores, seeking out the best baked goods.

Glen enjoyed the company of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He sought ways to entertain them such as road trips, building forts, and playing “school” to name a few.

Preceding him in death were sisters, Mae Derrickson, Adda Balchin, and Hazel Hubler, brothers, Earl Hubler, Claude Hubler, Raymond Hubler, Guy Mervine, Bruce Mervine, Paul Mervine, Franklin Mervine, and Robert Mervine.

Glen will be greatly missed by his wife, Betty Mervine, daughter, Sandra wife of Norman Stitzer, Grandchildren, Valerie wife of George Dornsife, John Stitzer, Glen Stitzer, also Great Grandchildren, Reese and Alise Dornsife,  Joslin, Jadelin, and Jolin Stitzer, all of Gordon.
