Ethyne Cecile Howren Obituary

On August 5, 2022, Ethyne Cecile Howren passed away.  She was 82 years old. A lifelong Missouri native, Ethyne was well-loved by her friends and family. Ethyne is survived by her husband Dolan Wesley Howren Jr., her sons Dolan Wesley Howren III (Michelle) and Kerry Nelson Howren (Julie), her granddaughter Isabella Howren and her grandson Maximus Howren.

Ethyne received a bachelor's degree from Washington University in St. Louis Missouri and had an impactful career as a public sector social worker.  Ethyne started her career in the early 1960's with Employment Security in St. Louis City where she met Dolan in 1963.  She continued her career with the State of Missouri working as an alcohol and drug abuse counselor at the Farmington State Hospital in Farmington Missouri. In 1970 Ethyne married Dolan Howren and moved to Jefferson City where she left the labor market for over fifteen years to commit herself to the important task of raising children.  In 1985 Ethyne resumed her career helping countless citizens through her work as a Mental Health case worker, a child abuse case worker, and a case worker for elderly abuse and neglected citizens until her retirement from the State of Missouri.

Ethyne was raised by her adopted family, naturalized citizens Hilda Rosenstein born in England and Hjalmar Nelson born in Sweden.  Ethyne valued and loved her adopted father as he was an anchor for her throughout her life.  Ethyne did not always express her feelings easily, but she valued and loved her children, her grandchildren and most of all her husband of 52 years.

Ethyne loved nature and was most at peace when tending to her garden and her pets.  She was a strong person with an amazing spirit, and she is missed.
