Douglas Robert Spicher, beloved husband of Kelly (Kenworthy) Spicher, loving father of Kyle D. Spicher and his wife Hannah and Cameren M. Spicher, dear brother of Denise Dick passed away suddenly August 3, 2022. Mr. Spicher was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Claude and Lois (Spicher).

Doug was a dedicated educator who believed in the promise of every student to reach their potential. As an educator, Doug taught middle school science, wrote curriculum, facilitated after-school programs, and was most recently the Gifted and Talented Coordinator at Wilde Lake Middle School. Doug’s work positively impacted the students, staff, and the entire school community.

Doug’s impact reached well beyond the classroom. He served as a volunteer football and soccer coach, focusing on sportsmanship and teamwork instead of winning. Players grew as athletes but more importantly as people with his support and encouragement.

Although Doug valued his professional work and coaching, his family was the most important part of his life. He was deeply proud of Kyle’s graduation as a chef from Johnson and Wales and Cameren’s acceptance to Virginia Tech. He was always available to support and love them unconditionally. Doug and Kelly met when they were teenagers, and he has been her friend, support, and partner for over thirty years.

Friends and family may call Monday August 8th from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Slack Funeral Home, P.A., 3871 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City MD. 21043. A Time to share memories will take place at 7 p.m. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Spicher's name may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org) or to the National Aquarium Terrapins in the Classroom Program ( www.aqua.org)
